NOVEMBER 4-20 THE COLORS OF MY LIFE Written by Celia Lewis Inspired by Maine Artist Jennifer Visscher What would happen if your colorful life literally turned black and white? An artist has her ability to see color taken away and the picture-perfect world she once painted begins to crumble. Through laughter and tears, she struggles to survive her black and white world and paint her way back to the colors of the life she once knew.
DECEMBER 1-22 HUMBUG! A Spirited Christmas Carol Written by Michael J. Tobin Footlights Theatre favorite, Gretchen G. Wood, returns from Colorado to star in this 2018 sold-out hit show! Set in the 1940’s, a touring company of misfit performers get snowbound in a small town they're supposed to perform “A Christmas Carol” in. With half the cast missing and a mismatched collection of costumes, props, and set pieces, they attempt to perform the Dickens’ classic- even though off stage shenanigans make it hilariously difficult. Full of humor, heart, and a happy ending, this holiday hit comedy will capture your inner humbug and fill you with the Christmas spirit!” (HUMBUG! will play Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 7pm, Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays and Sunday at 2pm)
JANUARY 6-22 YOU MADE ME LOVE YOU
Created by Gary Upton In this cabaret-style tribute, “You Made Me Love You” is a one-woman tour de force... a loving and affectionate portrait of legendary singer and actress Judy Garland (1922-69). A tragic figure of entertainment who glittered on the outside and recoiled on the inside, our spotlight shines on Judy Garland’s musical and personal life through a potpourri of reminiscences, performances of Garland standards and video clips of Garland herself - including every Judy Garland film in a 14-minute tribute. Start the new year right by taking yourself down the yellow brick road of her incredible life.
FEBRUARY 10-26 SERIOUSLY FUNNY The Footlights Theatre will present the best 10-minute one acts submitted to our 1st “Seriously Funny” competition (to be held September-November 2021). The plays must be 10 minutes long with no more than 3 in the cast, a simple set, and it can be a drama or a comedy or both. The eight “best” plays selected from the competition (by a panel of judges) will then be given a fully staged production each night… and one play will be voted “the best” by each audience member after each performance. MARCH 10-26 STOLEN MEMORIES: WOMEN IN THE HOLOCAUST Adapted and Written by Michael J. Tobin This premiere play brings real-life accounts of the women in the Holocaust to the Footlights Theatre stage. Taken from their diaries, memoirs, interviews, letters and books, these varied experiences represent the extremities of human suffering, endeavor, and courage among the women- victims and heroes -in the Holocaust. A powerful, poignant, and yes, painful insight into what it was really like for Jewish women as their homes, families, and lives were systematically shattered. Shocking, powerful, and personal, Women in the Holocaust retells history, written by those women who were there.
APRIL 7-23 A PASSAGE OF TIME Written by David Mauriello A Passage of Time tells the story of Joey and Mike whose dream is to create a Bed and Breakfast along the coast of Maine. Their dream is interrupted by the needs of family, social pressures, and coming to terms with their relationship. The story by Maine Playwright, David Mauriello, is filled with love, life, humor, and the ever-recognizable squabbles inherent in any family as they adjust to the process of growing older and letting go. Soon to be a major motion picture!
MAY 5-21 SURRENDER DOROTHY Music and Lyrics by Carole Wise and Book by Michael J. Tobin. This New Folk Musical takes place in groovy 1969 when 42-year-old Dorothy Gale travels back to Oz because life has not turned out exactly like the sepia 1939 promised. The Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Cowardly Lion are back but, like Dorothy, have seen many changes on the yellow brick road of life and love. And no trip back to Oz would be complete without a spell of wickedness! The malevolent Hagatha (the fifth witch no one talked about) is determined to make Dorothy pay for what she did to her sister- and her little dog too. Perhaps there is no place like home… or is there?!
